Big Bruce

I was trying to get directions to a long-term care facility in Chesley. I was told when you see “Big Bruce” you’re right beside it. I live in Grey County and Bruce County is right beside us. Everything is “Bruce” … Bruce Penninsula, Bruce Trail, Bruce Nuclear … I’m a little ‘Bruce’ weary. So when I heard “Watch for ‘Big Bruce’ I groan inside.” … What could this be, now?

Bruce is a huge Horn Hereford bull. A monument. A tribute to an area farmer. When I saw Big Bruce it took me back to my childhood. We had purebred horned and polled Herefords. We also had two 9″ ceramic bulls that looked just like Bruce.

Saskatchewan is also full of community monuments, click on this link supplied to me by my brother. If you want to check out my hometown, scroll down to Hanley. BIG THINGS IN SASKATCHEWAN.

Ah…. Big Bruce. I actually took a picture of it and gave it to my brother-in-law (Mike’s now-16 year old brother, who was about 12 at the time) because he thought Big Bruce was so funny. My dad “autographed” it and everything.
