Ever since I got here, I’ve been driving folks nuts with Rider Pride. I have a Riders’ bunny hug that I wear a lot of the time. Football isn’t so popular here — it’s a hockey community. Doug, my husband, has always said the only thing the rest of Canada knows Saskatchewan for is their football team. The Riders are like our provincial ambassadors.
Saskatchewanians have their own insecurities and we often feel invisible. People only come to SK so they can drive through it to get to Alberta or BC. Or, they never come to SK, they only fly over it. We really are the Corner Gas show … we are a funny bunch of people. (And by the way, we really are “Little Mosque on the Prairie” as the writier/creator is from Regina.)
And we know how to party. I’m so excited for the game because the Parish Council is having their annual Christmas Supper on Sunday evening … so we’ll celebrate the Grey Cup together … and with a big screen TV. Doug brought out some Rider goodies when he visited and with faith & confidence I didn’t give them away because I wanted them for “door prizes” at the Grey Cup party. I am a woman of faith … even when SK is usually a “next year” country!

I have a tire repair business just up the road. Everyone is getting their snow tires put on now, so there is lots of traffic!
It is only because Toronto is not in the Grey Cup that the “Green” Riders have a chance to claim the cup
I know so little about football I don’t even know who the Raiders are playing against, but I’m cheering for that team anyways!!!! Now….when it comes to hockey… we all know who will win the Stanley Cup this year, right? TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS, of course …. and Kristin, we will make you a Leafs fan!!!!!!!!!!!
Mary:First of all the football team from Saskatchewan is called the Rough “Riders” not the raiders. Secondly, you must be inhaling something that has effected your brain a bit. Toronto Maple Laffs for the Stanley Cup? They have been a rebuilding team for the last 40 years and at the rate that they are rebuilding,it will take another 40 years before they come close to getting into the finals for the cup!!
Thank you John for correcting Mary … I was nearly going off the deep end with the “raiders” slight of hand. Mary did you innocently make that typo or were you trying to make me crazy? Need I ask?

As for you, John Pulley, the LEAFS will win the Stanley Cup… someday …. and you’d better watch out when they do! The shy, quiet Mary you have always known will no longer be that way!
Kristin: The balloons should be Argo blue. After all, the Riders shouldn’t have near the problem of winning the cup with the Argo’s out. And Mary,if you consider yourself quiet and shy, I think I will have to find a good pair of ear muffs IF the Leafs every win the cup while I am still alive!!
