Sacrificial Auction

The parish has been supporting an orphanage in Ghana through the “Be a Hero” Ministry. Pastor Sheilah & Andy travelled to Ghana this summer to deliver clothes and medications, as well as to volunteer for two weeks at the orphanage. (For details see the newspaper interview click here.

Soliciting for the auction was a tremendous amount of work. 153 items were collected. I have a series of photos for your viewing pleasure!

1. Getting ready for the Auction – Everyone gathered at the parsonage & we shared a lunch together as a kick-off for our day. The meeting room area was full of items needing to be hauled the 15 km to the Kaedy Community Centre. For pictures of the gang at work, click here. You’ll see the last photo in this set is the meeting room empty and “back to normal.”

2. Setting up at Kaedy – Click here, to see photos of our display tables and the crew of volunteers in the food booth. You’ll see my obsession with pies continue, but they had the most amazing selection of pies again. There we pies left over, so they were sold at the end of the auction.

3. Time to Bid – I took a few pictures of the sale itself. Click here.

4. What I Bought – I actually brought a number of items, but these were the key ones. I had lots of fun with a young member of the congregation who was sitting with me. She held up the bidding card whenever I wanted to bid. It was fun to have someone to share the excitement with – especially when we were bidding up her parents who sat in front of us! For photos, click here.

I think Doug is wondering how I’m going to get all the stuff home that I’ve bought over the past months. Plus, PJ Sillypants is growing on me, & I’m beginning to think I’ll have a hard time leaving the kitty behind in a good home. But travelling four days with a cat in the car isn’t my idea of fun either. Well, I don’t have to make that decision until next May. I’m thinking about leaving all my clothes here & buying a new wardrobe when I get home. I wonder what Doug thinks of that idea!

sooooo…Vicar Kristin…you think you get to leave in May?!?! Ha! Way you’re behaving that’s not likely to happen! We gotta somehow get video of you laughing at (by!) yourself in the parsonage. By the way, you should see all of the X’s marked on your internship report card …. Remember Gerald is chair of the committee … and I tell him everything!!!

And don’t forget that I’ve got some pull in the Golem family too….

You might as well start convincing Doug to move here! :)

  3. Doug says:

Feel free to buy a new wardrobe when you come back to Saskatchewan – the amount you spend on new clothes MUST be equal to the amount you sell your old clothes for!

  4. Happy Birthday Doug! I don’t care for your sense of humour.

  5. Mary Golem says:

ahhh, Doug …. that could be a reason for Kristin to stay in Ontario!! Start packing….
by the way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY from us too!
    cheers!
