We Won!!

Yes ……. we won! ……. I know you are wondering why I haven’t been shouting from the rooftops ………. but I am humble and meek ….. and it is with a quiet voice I say ….”NAH, Nah, naaaaah!!!!” All those nay-sayers ….. all those who doubted the Green Machine …… all of you who didn’t even care (you know who I mean!) …. we showed YOU!!!

I have to say a big thanks to Harry for lending me his circa 80′s Roughrider ball cap. It was a great thing to be able to wear this in my comings and goings in the days before the Grey Cup.

You can tell from the photo to the right that all the lights of the universe were dancing around my head in anticipation of the victory. It was so wonderful to be able to celebrate the event at the Parish Christmas Party at Andy & Sheilah’s. They have a huge TV. I had Rider goodies to give away as door prizes – that was a big drawing card!

There was a decidedly “anti-Rider” feeling in that living room, but the Riders’ outstanding skill and perseverance won over all these Ontario folks. And there wasn’t even alcohol involved in that transformation!

FINALLY….she posts something! We were beginning to wonder if she had too much wine AFTER the parish party and was still recovering! We reallllly enjoyed watching the game with you Kristin … it’s just too bad all that cheering for the LEAFS that Bev and I didn’t produce results. Maybe next year…..
Doug … Gerald won the Rider salt and pepper shakers! Next time you are in Ontario be sure to come over for dinner…I promise they will be on the table ….perhaps with a Leaf logo covering the Rider one, but nevertheless, they will be on the table!
Cheers! Soooo happy for you, Kristin, that your team won! Just can’t imagine what we’ve have to deal with if they didn’t!!! By the way, Doug, we were able to teach Kristin what a touchdown is before the game, so she’d at least look educated about football in front of her critics!!!
Congrats to all on your Rider win!
Now it’s the Leafs’ turn for victory….right John?!!

  2. Jen Chase says:

You realize that the hat Harry let you borrow is probably older than Rhett and I, right?? :)

  3. Jen – Ageism is a form of discrimation … and I’ll have none of that talk on this blog!

Just because the cap has the Rider logo from another era, ….. that just makes it “retro hip” … like me!

  4. Doug —- Tell Mary that I do to know the game of football! I was able to explain a call in the game when it was actually a fumble & not an incomplete pass because the QB hadn’t pumped his arm forward enough (which upon review by the umpire, he too agreed with my assessment!)

  5. Jen Chase says:

Maybe you know football, but can you write a sentence correctly, oh run-on-sentence-queen?

  6. Doug says:

Kristin’s knowledge of football is indeed quite adequate – you have no idea how many times I have had to explain the rules and their interpretation when we watch a game together. Has Kristin ever told you how patient I am?

  7. Mary Golem says:

As a matter of fact, Doug, no! Kristin has not mentioned your level of patience. We should have known though!! Is there some more stuff we should know about her that hasn’t come up yet?!?

  8. Jen – Watch out … I’ve got a post coming your way! (I like using … and —- instead of grammar … but I’ll save that for another post.) I suppose you’ve learned grammar from your Mother … but she’s always got an Editor to straighten her sentences out … except for the 20+ years that she was the Editor.)

Doug – I was really pleased with your comment in the first part of that sentence, but the rest was inaccurate … except the patience part.

Mary – You are misrepresenting me (I wrote ‘lying’ first, but I thought maybe that was too harsh – but accurate). I have said Doug is patient. He’s learned that from rearing his children but it’s never been required of him in our marriage.

  9. Mary Golem says:

Oh, dear Kristin … surely you don’t want me to make a comment on you last comment, now do you?!?!?!
I concur with Gerald ….. poor Doug!!

  10. Jen Chase says:

I concur with my parents. But don’t worry, Kristin…. Jesus still loves you!

  11. John Pulley says:

All of you, stop picking on our poor Vicar. She really tried to control herself during the game. It was probably her self control that vibrated to the QB that really won the game for the Green Riders (Green raiders Mary?) As for you and Bev trying to get the Maple Laffs winning, I would suggest you save your breath. As stated some time ago, I doubt that I will ever see them win the cup again. Remember, they have another 40 years of rebuilding. Vicar- I wondered how long we would all have to wait to read your response to the win in a very humility minded way

  12. Jennifer Chase says:

But she picked on me first….

    (mature, isn’t it?)

  13. Mary Golem says:

Oh no she didn’t, Jennifer. Vicar Kristin, and John, and Liz, and Andy, and, and, and, and, have been picking on your dear old, quiet, shy mommy for many years now! But like I’ve said before, when the Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup you will hear me!!!!!!!!!

  14. Merv & Kim & Heather says:

    Woo hoo….

Is football the game where the players kick around the black and white ball???
    :)

  15. John Pulley says:

Kim: Football is a brown pigskin ball (as if you didn’t already know that. Mary- I am older than you, so I have been following the Maple Laffs longer, and it is getting a little tedious waiting for the “Cup” to land in Toronto. Like I said earlier, they are in another 40 year rebuilding phase. Even the Green Riders didn’t take that long to win their second Grey Cup!!
