Wiarton Willie Caravan? What are you doing on the morning of Feb 2nd?

February 2nd is coming up and I think we should all plan a caravan trip to see Wiarton Willie! I have to go! You see … Emily was born on Ground Hog Day (my baby will be 21 this year!) and I can’t possible live this close and not celebrate the event.

The Prediction Ceremony goes from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m., but my informed sources say it’s best to be on site by 6:45 or 7:00.

On a good driving day it will take us an hour to get there from here. Or we could try to find some creatively cheap accommodations in Wiarton & go on Friday and enjoy the full flavour of the celebration … it would have to be cheap because I’m saving all my money to buy Emily Ground Hog memorabillia. I know she’d treasure those gifts! Authenitic and everything!

Do I have any ‘takers’ on this great opportunity?

  1. Mary Golem says:

Your “informed source” is a taker to enjoy Willie festivities!!!

  2. I feel the momentum building!

  3. Kristen says:

Wish I could be there. Be sure to say hi to the pastor in Wiarton, Pastor Brad Mittleholz at St. Peter’s!

  4. Doug says:

Here is your opportunity to try some winter camping! That would cheap and you wouldn’t have any trouble getting up in the time for the festivities (i.e. you would want to get up to warm up!). Really, going the night before is your only option, Kristin isn’t a morning person, I don’t know about Mary.

  5. Doug, I’m trying to build momentum! I’m sparkling in the morning! Be not afraid those of you who live so close to Willie – I won’t bite!

I think we should call the caravan the “Polar Express”!

  6. Mary Golem says:

Some of my family, Doug, MIGHT say I am NOT a morning person either. Hogwash! I’m fine …. after 11 a.m.!
    It’s going to be a fun experience….

  7. Mary Golem says:

The chair of the Internship Committee is thinking about joining us in Wiarton, Kristin. Could it be that he doesn’t trust his girls during a day on the town??
Watch out, though, he’s a morning person!!

  8. Brad Mittleholtz says:

    Kristin,

I’ll see you at the Meeting Place/Propeller Club in Wiarton for prediction day. As local Lutheran & Anglican pastor/priest I feel it is my duty to bless this most holy of days in Wiarton. It also happens to be my son Ethan’s first birthday! He gets a card from Willie this week. I would suggest giving Emily’s name to Willie and she too will get a card from him. Go to the Town of South Bruce Peninsula’s website and look for Wiarton Willie for a link.

Cheap places are hard to come by. But there might be a St. Peter’s person (Wiarton I mean) who might have an extra room for the night.

  9. Hi Brad! Thanks for visiting and I hope you noticed that my fellow seminarian Kristen Steele sent you greetings in post #3.

I already had the Wiarton Willie site bookmarked & I found the ‘Birthday Club.’ Emily can look forward to getting her birthday greeting. Thanks for the tip!

  10. Mary Golem says:

The excitement is building folks! Are you sure you don’t want to join us?!!?
(Translation … please…someone come with us. I have a feeling we’re going to need help controlling Kristin!)

  11. You’ll be amazed at how I’m going to work Wiarton Willie into my sermon

So folks … that means if you come on Saturday to Wiarton & then to church on Sunday, you’ll receive twice the blessing God wishes for you!

Oh….I’m going nuts with these emoticons!
