I had a wonderful ‘Golem’ day. Jennifer (you know her from her comments on this blog) was our guest preacher today. Jennifer works for Leprosy Canada (www.leprosy.ca – check it out) and she spoke powerfully about the effects this bacteria has on the body. For only $350 a person with leprosy can be cured – and the cure is permanent not just a reprieve. She also spoke on how Jesus advocated for the lepers … an example we should follow.
I then went over to Mary and Gerald’s for lunch with Jenn & Mike. Lots of teasing! Jennifer & Mike had to get home, but I stayed. And I stayed. And I stayed. Finally at 6:00 p.m. I said I should leave. Mary said “Stay for supper, we’re having hamburgers.” Honestly (and I really mean it) hamburger are one of my favourite meals. So I stayed. And I stayed a bit more.
It’s been a great day …. except for two problems: 1) At St. James (1st service) I forgot where I was in the service and Pastor Sheilah got up and went behind the altar to lead in the Apostles’ Creed …. I wondered what I was supposed to be doing….fortunately by the time the Creed was finished I realized I was supposed to be doing the Prayers of the People (so I jumped up and went and stood with her behind the altar!) ………. 2) the St. Peter’s service was being taped for future broadcast on the local Christian Radio Station. I was reading the lessons. I stuttered over trying to say “Exodus” and it didn’t get much better on the second attempt. Mary seems to be unable to let me forget what Exxoo—Exxodddus sounds like!
Look on the bright side – at least we were listening to you. It seems to me that you could learn that lesson….
What!!??? Who me???!!!
It was a GREAT day for us too!!! Never once did we feel the urge to switch off the lights to send Kristin home … why even a very annoying, and loud!, smoke detector which went off during the broiling of those said hamburgers failed to nudge her!! (No comment from anyone on that, please!)
And just to clarify … the ‘lots of teasing’ was directed AT Jen and Mike and Gerald and I, not BY us!!
All in all, a wonderful afternoon …. remember we had lots of catching up to do with Kristin. We missed her!
Must go now and read that “new” book Kristin says there is in the Bible …. one called Exxooo-Exxxooddddus?!?!!?
My ears are still ringing from when the smoke detector went off on Saturday.
You weren’t supposed to mention that Jennifer!!
Hi Kristin,
I talked to my boss, whose wife is a united church minister, and she wears earrings that dangle slightly with her clerical collar. She would think nothing of wearing the earrings that I wore yesterday (that dangle just below my earlobes) with her collar. However, she doesn’t wear large hoops (like more than an inch in diameter) or earrings that would be considered loud or that would draw lots of attention with her collar. Pretty much any earrings that my mom would wear would be fine with a collar, I would think.
Now aren’t I just the nicest friend you could ever ask for?? I take your fashion dilemmas to heart.
However, now I will always look at what earrings female clergy are wearing and think of you….
Jennifer
P.S. Don’t forget to blog about clergy hero!
I couldn’t remember what I was supposed to remember!! Now – I have two blog topics. You are the best!
Oh yeah …. I feed you but Jen gives you some ear-ring fashion advice and she’s the best?!?! Huh!
By the way, Doug, Kristin’s ears are well healed and ready for a pair of diamond studs at any time. Those she can most certainly wear with a clergy collar!!!
No comment yet from you Jen about the lovely winter flicker photo? Do you not recognize where it was taken?? and by whom?!?!?!
Mary – grovelling for attention is so unattractive. I realize I should make a post and give you photo credit….but alas….folks will have to read it here.
I did notice the photo and where it was taken, but since proper credit was not given on flickr, I could not confirm who was I supposed to compliment for the lovely photo.
Kristin, plagiarizing is *so* unattractive!
Jennifer – You communication majors!!!! You have a highly honed “sin-meter” don’t you! However, I believe I shall have to incorporate ‘sin-meter’ into my music post of clergy hero.
