Ick! News from Home

After a busy work day I was looking forward to checking my emails. I was so excited to read what Doug had to say when the subject header read as follows: It’s a wonderful day in the neighbourhood!!

I know Doug well enough to know that he doesn’t use double exclamation marks and so I got anxious right away. Here is what he had to say:

Hi, it’s that time of the year in Regina and Saskatchewan. What am I talking about you say – TICKS!! I found the first one of the season today, ON ME, just before I got into the shower. At first I thought I had a new birthmark (remember I didn’t have my glasses on) but then it started moving. So I had a quick burial a sea (twice) and I felt ‘clean’ again. They are such vile little bugs – I bet you don’t miss them!

And you thought I wanted to go home? To this???

There is a pecking order in our house. Usually the ticks find Emily first because she goes absolutely insane when the word ‘tick’ is said (she didn’t get it from me, I’ve still got all my insanity!), then they find me … they rarely seem to find Doug. The ticks will be around until mid-July. Rain seems to kill them, so were often hopeful if it’s rainy in June. (But it seemed like this tick didn’t want to stay flushed down the drain!)

Of course, if it rains then the swarms of mosquitoes come out. Sometimes hard to know which bloodsucker is worse!

Welcome to Saskatchewan!
