Doug Arrived Safely!

I wanted to let you know that Doug and his new motorcycle arrived safely. We’ll be on the Chi-Cheemaun ferry on Monday, June 2nd. We’ll be home in four or five days.

Doug “the Bandit”!

As you can see, Doug has a new toy. “The new baby in the family” (as Doug describes it) is a Suzuki 1250 touring bike called “Bandit.” He picked it up today from a dealer in Moose Jaw. Doug is very happy. He has a new bike. He’s on holidays [...]

Peeled & Pointed

I’m learning so many new words! Peeled and pointed is what you have done when you cut down trees in your own woodlot and then turn them into fence posts. You have the bark ‘peeled’ off and then the saw mill ‘points’ them so they have a tip to make pounding them into [...]

Worms!

I know they are disgusting and are devasting to the plant material they destroy, but I couldn’t resist taking some pictures. They spin these huge cocoons and as they mature and the temperature warms up they migrate out of the web. Click here for a couple of fascinating photos.

“Jack in the Pulpit” flowers

My friend Judy is always introducing me to wild flowers and plants that I’ve never seen before. The “Jack in the Pulpit” is not very common. The flower is hidden by a ‘hood’ or flap. You have to lift up the hood and then you see the stamen (which is Jack). [...]

Midland, Ontario

Last Saturday I travelled 2.5 hours east and north to Midland for a Georgian Bay Lutheran Conference convention. It is located on Geogian Bay and was at one time a major port…but no more. One of the most stunning things I’ve seen is the terminal silos which have been painted in a mural [...]

Double Threat for the Lord??

How many people, other than the likes of Billy Graham (I can’t believe I have the audacity to put his name and mine in the same sentence …) can say they were preaching “live” in a church at the same time as their sermon from late April was being broadcast on the local radio station? [...]

May 18th Sermon

Last year I took a class called “Narrative Hermeneutics” … in other words “Storytelling as Preaching.” I found the class transformative, but I also felt it was beyond my ability. I do not consider myself a creative writer. How I birthed a poet, I’ll never know. However, I know that I [...]

Krug Forest

Yesterday, Mary took me for a walk through the Krug Forrest. The plaque on the cairn at the trailhead says:
In memory of Howard H. Krug (1904-1997) – a dedicated conservationist, and owner with his brother Bruce, of Krug Brothers Furniture in Chesley. In his lifetime he banded over 100,000 birds and helped secure [...]

Cardinal

I had a cardinal visit me yesterday. It’s red feathers are so amazing. But it seems to be gone as quickly as it came.
