I know neither Doug or I have changed very much over the last thirty years, but I thought I would include this photo to prove my point. Thanks to Mary for the idea of including some of pictures! We were married by Rev. Colin Clay – the University of Saskatchewan campus chaplain from the Anglican church on Saturday, July 15, 1978. I have to give Rev. Clay all credit for marrying me – while I vocally denied Christ – trusting the Spirit has a way of working despite the barriers that I put in its way. This photo is taken at the Bessborough bandstand which overlooks the South SK river in Saskatoon. The evening dance and reception was held in my hometown of Hanley (a 50 minute drive south of Saskatoon.)
Doug’s brother, Robert, was his bestman. My sister-in-law, Dyanne, was my maid of honour. It was a beautiful day. My brother, Gordon (and Dyanne’s husband) took all of our photos. He was also driving Dyanne and I to the church when his car broke down. It is always interesting to add a bit of excitement to the day. During the service, the thunder was rolling heavily. The minister worked that aspect into his sermon. My sister-in-law, Barbara, played the organ for our music.
We’ve faced burdens and joys … and we have a wonderful family to show for it. This photo of Emily (1987), and Rhett (1982) and Leah, is from Christmas 2007. It was painful for me to be away from my family during the internship year – but arriving for Boxing Day celebrations made all that sorrow disappear. All of us will be in Calgary next week to celebrate Rhett & Leah taking possession of their first home.

Ahhhh, Kristin … thank you for sharing your wedding and children’s photos with us! I’m actually surprised you listened to me (ha!) and posted them! Guess I’ll be getting ONE bottle of wine, eh?
Seriously, you’re a GREAT looking couple, both then and now. Gerald and I wish you many, many more years of happiness!
Love, joy, peace and blessings in abundance to you and yours!!!
(You will notice I never once mentioned “Poor Doug” in this post!) CHEERS, my friends! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
By the way, have we told lately how much we miss you????
I echo my mom’s comments, since she stole all the good things to say.
(Hmmm…. that didn’t come out right. What I meant to say is that she took all of my ideas, except for the comment about the wine!)
Congratulations, and here’s to many, many, many more!
I am not sure what burdens Kristin is thinking of – it must be childbirth – because I have been a perfect husband and generally it has been a sweet ride so far. I remember our wedding day well – the thunderstorm during the ceremony was quite dramatic (and then the skies cleared for our picture session) – the only part Kristin left out was an annoying fly that was buzzing around our heads as we said our vows. I think we are both happy with what we have achieved so far and we look forward to each day together even more nowadays.
Isn’t he sweet!! And there’s no need for any more “Poor Doug” comments. Well … that statement might be premature because I have a post to make but it needs a photo taken first. Bet you can’t wait to moan on Doug’s behalf!
I’m waiting with baited breath….
(Can you tell I’m procrastinating on doing school work today or what??)
Best wishes come from our house to. You yougsters will have lots of years yet to boast about how you were meant for each other. Even God won you over eh Kristin.
Blessings
John & Liz
And maybe in the next 20 years Mom can post on her blog without me having to fix it.
Happy Anniversary!
Hey Kristen, Just crusing through some blogs and I came across yours! Lovely pictures! Congratulations! And i’ve never ever ever known anyone else with my name spelt the same way! (minus the a).
Blessings,
Dyanna
Rhett, did you not know that even though you are no longer at home, it is still your responsibility to fix whatever mom and dad goof up on.
hey…the old photos are obviously a hit with your fans. Surely then the idea is worth more than ONE bottle of wine, is it not???!??!?!?!! Otherwise, you know what will happen …. it’ll be no longer POOR DOUG but rather POOR MARY
By the way, are we going to see a PP photo, Krisin?!?!?!?!?! If so, I’ll give you a glass of wine!
John – I’m a little worried … and nervous … about what your acronyms mean. “PP” – I’m confused and afraid to guess. I think I’ve forgotten something I was supposed to remember!!
Mary can’t handle two bottles of wine!
Wow — I am traumatized … I was supposed to be talking to Mary in that last post!! and I was accusing “Poor John” – what was I thinking?? Especially when he was pointing out the facts of life to Rhett!
Kristin,
Here in Ontario, the “facts of life” relate to another context…. something rather fitting for a post about weddings!
I am in gales of laughter right now. Late last night I remembered what “PP” stood for and to my delight, Mary sent me a private – but not so delicate – email to remind me of the acronym … which she created.
And Jennifer – possibly I’ll leave it to you to send me an email with the material for the post you’d like to see written. I prefer the facts to be that our children are supposed to fix everything … but now when I read John’s comment more closely … what’s he talking about … parents goofing up??? Not me!
I’ve been thinking about how to reply to your comment all day, Kristin.
I think my response is to let sleeping dogs lie…
As for kids fixing things…. That’s so we don’t feel guilty for drinking the milk and eating all of the ice cream when we come home. And it helps when we want our mothers to make our favorite kind of cookies. (Mom, I like Children’s Cookies!)
Are these old photos a warm-up to the PP photo I sooooooo delicately reminded you about?!?!?!
Jen …. I’ll bake when it gets cooler!
By the way, a new Reader’s Digest came today …. that should spark a visit home, eh?!
So will you save all of the Reader’s Digests until December when it’s cool so that I can come home to enjoy the cookies while reading??
It is quite hard to keep up with you folks sometimes. We just finished VBS at St. James today. We had approximately 18 kids registered and about 10 volunteers. Leprosy is the target for this years offerings. With not help from Faith Financial Chapters this year, the kids and adults raised $185.46. We hope Jennifer will be pleased.
I am pleased! Thanks for sharing, John.
What a delightful way to start the weekend!
(I’ll write a more official response for Staying Connected.)
Now do I have to come home to get the donation? Because I’ll have to coordinate that with when the Reader’s Digest comes (so that there are as many new ones there to read a possible), and when my mom will make me cookies. Oh, and when she needs Mike for computer help.
No Jenn, you do not have to come and pick up our donation. It will be forwarded to you by snail mail with letter attached and a second page for you to see. Can’t say what it is at the moment.
Isn’t it nice that Kristin has a website for us to chat on!!
Way to Go, St. James’ VBS participants! I’m sure Jen and the staff at The Leprosy Mission will be pleased.
Belated Happy Birthday, Rhett and congrats to you and Leah on your new home. Welcome to the wonderful world of home ownership (debt and work, included!)
Have a GREAT vacation, Doug and Kristin.
Blessings for safe travel to you both.
And Jen … the Reader’s Digest was opened last night “back at the river”. You’ll have to come camping and we’ll toast marshmallows over the fire, instead of baking cookies in this heat.
Now does everyone know why I like snow?!?!! Sure beats heat and humidity, eh?!
Happy Weekend, everyone!
