I feel the need for a teaching moment as to provincial flower emblems. To the left is the SK tiger lilly. There are a number of species, but these ones in my backyard accurately reflect what the wild flower would look like. I’ve never seen a wild tiger lilly. Doug’s Mom gave me the original tiger lillies about twenty years ago. They have multiplied and multiplied. I can’t tell you how many times I have split the clumps. I have hundreds of them – the shorter and then the taller type which blooms in August.
This is a photo of the ON provincial flower emblem – the Trillium. It is a beautiful and delicate flower which is only found in the wild. The Grey-Bruce area has an abundance, but they have a short blooming season. In Ontario I heard a number of organizations and businesses have a Trillium reference. I guess Tiger Lilly doesn’t have the same ‘ring’ to it!
I wish you were here in Ontario to share a clump of lilies with me!
I’d share hostas and peonies….
I’d share weeds …. and even Sullivan stones!!
Thanks teach for the “learning” moment!
Peonies are one of my favourite flowers. I’m so glad that the weather turned cool here in late May – it delayed their development and I got to see them in their full beauty. Last year we purchased a few hostas for the first time. They are flourishing as well in their shady spots.
Mary – I’ve got enough weeds of my own! But had I had an ounce more of space in my car … I would have brought some of those Sullivan stones home for my waterfall. Maybe you can bring some with you next year … I’m sure you’d be willing to pay extra to WestJet for an overweight bag!!
When is your ordination, Kristin? I know next year, but is there a date narrowed down yet?
An overnight bag full of stones?? I know things are different in SK, but surely they have stones!?!?!?
I have to receive and accept a letter of call before an ordination date can be set.
And yes, we have pebbles, stones & rocks … and a few boulders … but they are not Sullivan rocks!
I see. Because I’ll be flying over you next May (twice, in fact) and depending on the dates a stopover could be made….
Well, Sullivan rocks are superior, I have to say…. (and no comments about the rocks in our heads either!)
