Back to Seminary

I arrived back at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Saskatoon on September 1, 2008 to begin my final year. The location of the seminary – on the grounds of the University of Saskatchewan – is quite spectacular. The seminary overlooks the South Saskatchewan River which runs through the center of the city.

The seminar was built in the early 1970′s and so it shows its age on the inside but it is beautiful on the outside. Last week was “Orientation Week” which is primarily an opportunity to build community within the Lutheran seminary and also amongst the Emmanuel and St. Chad Seminary (Anglican) and St. Andrews seminary (United Church). The three seminaries have a ‘union’ – Saskatoon Theological Union – and as a trio it has the largest teaching faculty in Canada outside of Toronto. Quite a feat for the prairies!

Our in-coming or first year class is very small. Only three students. The past four years there have been usually 15-18 students. One can only wonder if this is a blip or a trend (hope not!)
