-13 in Regina this Morning!

It was really cold in Regina this morning as Doug and I were packing up the car for me to head back to Saskatoon. Ontario folks would cringe at the sound of -13, but remember … it’s a dry cold out here. Southern Ontario -3 days with a breeze would rival any bitter day out here.

At -16 I start plugging in the block heater, so its pretty cold for the end of October!

I was really glad that Doug and I spent Saturday afternoon putting the yard to bed. You’ve seen many pictures of our backyard, but not one with the pond half emptied out and with all the annuals pulled up and the perrenials cut back. It only took a few hours but it was back-breaking work. As you can see the pond has a ledge which helps to hold its form. Doug leaves a certain amount of water in it – I’m not quite sure why.

This morning there is a firm layer of ice on the pond now that there is no moving water to keep it clear. The good news is that the weather is to warm up to +10 or better for tomorrow and the rest of the week. Maybe I’ll get those crocuses planted after all!
