John will be pleased to know that I sang the liturgy for Morning Prayer today. I was shaking – literally – through the entire service. And part of my cheek – but only one little spot on one side – was burning hot. But I did fine. I chant the Psalm 84 tomorrow. I’ve practised quite a bit for both, so I’m feeling OK.
We have a choir again this year, and it is one of the first year students who is leading. He has directed choirs for a number of years. He is one of these truly positive people who sees the best in everyone. He said to me today (because I’ve voiced my fears to him), “You have a fine singing voice.” I replied, “I hope I can believe that by the end of the year.”
I know John and Andy said the same thing to me, too. But it is so hard to accept positive affirmations when it is so ingrained to believe otherwise. Something about faith I guess…
Yeah Kristin! Those who sing often fail to realize how difficult it is for some of us to overcome the fear, and even ridicule, of singing. Doesn’t matter to me what they think … I like to sing, even though I don’t do it well. After all, we are supposed to “make a joyful NOISE …..” Right?!
Kristin: Praise God for the courage to try. If I may say so, we are proud of you. Steping beyond your comfort level takes courage, but because you chose to go beyond what you thought you were capable of, you succeeded. Keep up the good work and use the talents God blessed you with.
P.S. Mary. You are so right and that is why everyone who likes to sing should do so whether others agree or disagree.
Yeah! I had to hold my hands to keep them from shaking during the psalm but I chanted my little heart out!
