Doug’s B’day coming up – need your ideas

It’s going to be Doug’s birthday on Sunday. I haven’t done any shopping yet. You all heard about how wonderfully I got treated on my birthday last week. Do you have any helpful suggestions?

I did offer to take him to the SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS football game next Saturday where they will, I’m sure, trounce the BC Lions on their way to winning the Grey Cup. Doug decided he’d rather watch it from the comfort of home. I hate to say it, but the Riders’ fans have become boorish and being in the stands isn’t always so much fun – with all the drinking, etc.

Doug does read this blog from time to time, but he’d still be surprised if I did select your idea. Actually, he’d be really surprised if I did anything!

Bring him to Ontario for a visit! WE’LL supply ALL the wine, the food, a place to sleep, a vehicle to drive … you name it’s yours…..

  2. Mary Golem says:

Or … a gold plated POOR DOUG sign for his desk
Or … more vacation time to use his new motorcyle
Or … a romantic evening/dinner then rent a movie of HIS choice
Or … guess I better not put that here …………

  3. Mary Golem says:

On second thought …. Kristin … why don’t YOU PAY for OUR WAY out to Sask … your faithful followers – Jen, John and me … and we’ll shove ourselves inside one of those giant cakes and pop up at the appropriate time to wish Doug a Happy Birthday. It would be a birthday he’d always remember………

Still thinking about more ways to celebrate … keep checking back in!

  4. Jen Chase says:

I AM NOT JUMPING OUT OF A CAKE.

(Yes, that deserves all caps. Seriously, where did I get my parents??) *shakes head*

Two of my coworkers went to an Argos-Roughriders game last week…. We’re all in awe of the fact that there is so little to do in SK that you have to watch football the fans are so enthusiastic.

  5. You folks are the best!!!

  6. John Pulley says:

Kristin:I like Mary’s first suggestion. Come to Ontario for a celebration and perhaps we could get you to stay. After all, as stated previously, God’s country is Grey Bruce not SK.

  7. Kristin says:

Do you think I could get folks converted to being SK Roughrider football fans? You folks are pretty hard-core Toronto Maple Leaf fans!!

  8. Mary Golem says:

These folks have no sense of adventure! Jen won’t do the cake thing; John doesn’t even mention it!
You should come to Ontario and we’ll all go to a LEAFS game …. forget football!
When you’ve got the Toronto Maple Leafs to cheer for, what else do you need … (That’s sure to spark a comment or two from John!)
    BTW, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DOUG!!!!!!!!!!

  9. John Pulley says:

I will reserve my enthusiasm for the Leafs, or is that “Laughs” for a while. If they make the playoffs this year, we can do a belated birthday cake for Doug and by then we will be able to convince Jen to jump out of the cake with us. We best save our sympathy for Kristin as I am certain the Green Riders will not win the Grey Cup this year!!!! And since there will be no cheering in SK, she and Doug may as well renew their love of God’s country in Grey Bruce, or Bruce Grey which ever fits best.

  10. Kristin says:

John – I have some problems with your negative attitude!!! What do you mean won’t win the Grey Cup???

  11. Jen Chase says:

Kristin, I would work on getting people converted to Christ, not football.

  12. John Pulley says:

The Green Riders won’t win the Grey Cup because they traded their QB to Toronto in exchange for a hot and cold QB that will fold under the pressure of playoff football. They should have held on to what they had. Undoubtedly you noticed that Toronto made a loser out of your best QB.

  13. Mary Golem says:

So….have any plans been made for “poor” Doug’s birthday?? Am I supposed to catch a plane, bus, train … or do you expect me to hitchike …. so I can get there in time to jump out of a cake?!?!

  14. John Pulley says:

Mary: Maybe you could catch a ride in an open cockpit aircraft and then jump “INTO”
the cake. That would definitely be different amd unusual.

  15. Mary Golem says:

Gee, thanks John. Who needs enemies when you have a “friend????” like you!!!
C’mon…let’s hear it ……… POOR MARY!

  16. “Poor Mary”

It’s been a busy week and I’ve missed out on all your commenting! I am still struggling in the idea department, but I still have tomorrow to shop!

  17. Mary Golem says:

We are really concerned about Doug’s birthday tomorrow! Is there going to be anything special given/done to him on his special day??!?! Please advise!

Seriously . . . an abundance of birthday blessings to you Doug! Can’t think of anyone who deserves the royal treatment more than you! (Kristin, you can take that comment just whatever you like…ha!)

Have a good day tomorrow – both of you! We will . . . we’re going to Newmarket to attend church/visit with Jen and Mike. Yeah!

  18. John Pulley says:

Happy, Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday DOUG!! from us folk at Holland Centre, Ont. Perhaps you could also console Kristin since her Green Riders will not be repeat Grey Cup winners. (They should not have traded away their QB to Toronto).

  19. Doug says:

Thanks for the birthday wishes – except for the Riders dismal play it has been a good weekend. I got a new pair of oven mitts and some exquisite Belgian chocolates. My old oven mitts had a strategically placed hole that resulted in several burns on my hands and Emily’s, but not Kristin’s – remember she doesn’t cook unless she is on the brink of starvation.

  20. John Pulley says:

Doug: Did you notice that the Riders got rid of their “Toronto” connection QB? Smart move.
