Last Sunday afternoon was beautiful although slightly cool. I was really tired but thought if I got outside that the fresh air would perk me up. The tiger lillies haven’t sprouted yet, so it was the ideal time to pull the old stems (woody) out of the ground and pull out the crab grass, etc. I got so much done! I trimmed the dead leaves off the irises plus trimmed some branches from the bushes.
I didn’t get the entire length finished, but I did get the other side (from this photo) completely cleaned up. I’m sure my right hand and elbow will be aching tomorrow.
Doug got his motorcycle ready for the season. He also got the pond pumped out but still has to clean it a bit more before refilling it with clean water.
This photo shows the tulips that are up at our back door (south exposure). The poppies are up and the rose bushes are beginning to show some green bark near to the soil. None of my other tulips are this far along. But my day lillies are doing quite well. I moved a year ago and they seem to like their new spot. As you can tell, it was quite a gray day today.
Yesterday Doug put bird seed in the feeders for the first time this season. We already have quite a collection of birds. Two robins were very happy that I was digging up the soil and they didn’t seem too worried by my presence.
Doug has his motorcycle out and ready to do, Kristin has sore muscles from an abundance of yard work, Jennifer has daffodils and tulips blooming …. ahhhh…..spring is indeed in the air, although Mary’s tulips and daffodils are only about three inches high at the moment! What a pathetic gardener I am! But….my primroses are in full bloom and absolutely gorgeous…white, yellow and purple! They do well because I do nothing to them! I should send a photo just to brag!!!
Send me a photo … pronto!
Dearest Kristin … it is DARK here – it’s 10 p.m. PRONTO isnt’t going to happen! Maybe tomorrow, when I get done my all-day meeting.
By the way, Doug, does Kristin ever give such “Pronto” orders to you?!??
Both Jen and John have commented to me today how GREAT it is to have you and your blog back in our lives … I agree! Oh, what fun it is to ….
Well there is no shortage of “pronto” orders around our house although I tend ignore almost all of them. Kristin has learned to wait until I get up then ask me a little pathetically if I could get her some coke, nachos. popcorn… whatever the mood is at the time.
… and whoever said I wasn’t capable of learning … adapting to my environment
And I appreciate Doug’s qualifier … I ask only a “little pathetically” … because I’m capable of “full-on” pathetic!
Oh, we know, Kristin!!!! Ha!
You should see my tulip bed. I will be lucky if two thirds of the tulips make it. We planted about three hundred bulbs last fall and as the snow is slowly departing, the majority of seven deer who have been evident around the “Ranch” were eating the tops of the tulips. I guess that is what we get for feeding a fifty pound bag of corn during the winter.
John – It’s hard not to be happy for the deer since you live in their territory, but I love tulips. I hope the bulbs that survive are spectacular!
