Calgary Garden Work – Part Two

Rhett taking down the crab apple tree Rhett & Leah have done a lot of work before we arrived. Rhett cut down a large crab apple tree that they discovered last fall to be a sour apple. It was a massive job as it was the same size as the one which is still beside it, which bears eating crab apples. They also have raspberry canes (some extra new ones courtesy of Leah’s Mom) and a Saskatoon Berry tree. Saskatoons are a delicacy which my Ontario friends are unaware – except for those who have visited the West.

Former Cement Pad in Front Yard In years gone by the previous home-owner had a decorative windmill in his front yard. Prior to the sale the windmill was removed but the circle of concrete remained. Rhett had this all sledge-hammered out and the remains disposed of before we arrived. This hole will be filled with topsoil … but you have to wait.

Flower bed under the front window This is the front flower bed under the living room window. A few weeks ago Leah’s Mom helped move a shrub from the back into this bed (at the far end.) We made even more changes! The black kitty is ‘Elly’ their other cat is JD.
