Bathing the Dogs

I know some of you might be surprised (or not!) when I tell you that I have never bathed our dogs. Well, years ago I probably bathed Charlie but once we got Flame eight years ago it was all Emily’s job. Flame was her show dog and she had to do all the primping. And the same is true for Phoenix.

Doug has bathed the dogs lots of times, especially when the creek is especially stinky (Phoenix always goes in it) Phoenix gets a bath. But otherwise our dogs aren’t very dirty and so they don’t need many baths.

Doug is away and I invited Phoenix up on the bed last night. I immediately told him he had to get down. ‘Poor Phoenix’ – he didn’t know what he did wrong … he stinks!

So this morning was bath day. I intentionally didn’t have a shower, because you know how that goes … the moment the dogs are out of the dog bathing tub (yes, the dogs have their own tub and grooming room!) they shake! And they also become nutty … something about being wet makes them crazy with running circles with each other.

I didn’t realize the dog shampoo was so concentrated. This meant Phoenix had to endure a lot of rinsing. My puppies will be in show-ring form in a few hours when they dry!

Emily nearly had a fit when I said how thick the shampoo was … she exclaimed, “You are supposed to dilute it 16:1!!!”

Well … my dogs do have super-soft hair now!

Jennifer – every so often there is a dull moment, but then I do something dumb and the cycle starts all over again. Like today … I’m telling Doug on the phone about all the errands I ran today. I told him I liked it better when all these things magically happened during the week and nothing needed to be done when I got home from S’toon. … Of course it doesn’t surprise any of us that Doug is the ‘magic man’!! He had better come home soon!
