Drenched!

Suzanne and I had made a date to walk the dogs at 8:30 p.m. As I posted earlier it has been very hot and windy here today. The clouds had been building up all night. I would have called to move up the time but I was having a great telephone visit with a friend. … Anyway … we get out in the still +23 weather and gale force winds, but the clouds were ominous. We headed out to the farmer’s field and walked along the edge of the creek. We get as far as the ‘dip’ and we feel a rain drop. We look at each other and Suzanne says, “If we were smart we would turn around now.” … We’re smart, but not quite brilliant!

The words barely come out of her mouth and it starts to pour. At least the wind is at our back, propelling us towards home. Suzanne says, “Do you want to run?” I say, “No. I’m afraid I’ll sprain my ankle in the ruts of the path.” The wind and rain blow harder on my bare arms. Suzanne says, “Do you want to run? I think there’s a tornado coming!” I say, “You are going to have to turn around & look because it will take a tornado to make me run!!” The wind and rain are so noisy we are practically yelling at each other.

Now it gets even worse, but fortunately we hit the smooth ground and I start to run (or at least my version of running.) We are soaked. We get back to the residential edge and use a neighbour’s fence as a wind break as I catch my breath. Then it stops raining. The rain probably only lasted ten minutes … the ten minutes we were outside! It has gotten very dark out in the last 10 minutes (not just the sun setting.)

And to top it off … I had forgotten to feed the dogs at suppertime. Poor Flame & Phoenix! There are province wide weather warnings for severe thunderstorms with hail. Doug is in Saskatoon and he reports there is only light winds there.

Fran – good news – I finally got all my papers cleaned up and boxed. They had been covering the spare bed in the second bedroom This means your bed is all ready and waiting for you!

Poor Suzanne! Poor Flame! Poor Phoenix!

I know you are probably looking for a poor Kristin too … Not! You should have listened to Suzanne’s wisdom in the first place!! (Hmmm…this comment sounds like Doug talking, not Mary!, doesn’t it??)

  2. Kristin says:

Doug knows I can’t run. Suzanne knows I can’t run. When you come here Mary, I’ll demonstrate my running skills for you … then it will be a “poor Kristin” (but it will have that pathetic edge when you say it!)

Well, you do know that Murphy’s Law rules the world, right??

On Saturday, it POURED rain while I was at the farmer’s market. It stopped for a while, so I started to plant the perennials I got at the market. Then it POURED again when I was half done, so I decided to finish. I was caked in mud by the time I was done… but my flowers look nice. :)
