House Buying – Busy Week Last Week

I know I’ve been terrible at posting, but it’s been hectic. Last Sunday I travelled out to Swift Current and stayed with my brother – Les & Barb. I worked Monday & Tuesday with the pastors, getting the ‘big picture’ and then some specific planning.

Tuesday night Doug came out on his motorcycle. Wednesday we house hunted. Click on this link if you would like to see some photos of the house we have purchased. We put an offer in on Thursday and they counter-offered, which we accepted. We take possession on August 15th. We still have a few hoops (furnace check, financing, etc) but we don’t expect any problems.

I returned Wednesday afternoon and Doug travelled on to work in Saskatoon. Thursday was a ‘free’ day but I was exhausted.

On Friday, I attended the funeral of a dear man, 96, from church. He had served as a pastor in many communities and then as a high school teacher at Luther College. His daughter-in-law said to me, “Dad loved you.” That’s when I started crying. I knew he loved me. It was a tough day as I had also received news of a dear friend from my internship site was critically ill. Thanks be to God that she is recovering to praise God for another day of life.

On Friday evening we hosted another Mysterium service. This is the once a month, post-modern/emerging worship service which we hold. Our pastor is on six weeks of holidays and so the team took responsibility for the service, which we have done numerous times in his absense. I brought the message that night. We call it an ‘inter-active reflection’ so it’s not like a Sunday morning sermon … well, same but different. (Mary – if you choose to arrive a week early our next Mysterium is Friday, July 10th.) We re-arrange the entire sanctuary so there is a lot of set-up and tear-down. We arrive at 6:00 p.m. for a 8:00 start and we had everything cleaned up by 10:35 (but that’s only because I asked Doug to come down and help put away the cement blocks that we use for the prayer wall.)

On Saturday morning we were on the road by 9:30 to drive to Saskatoon for a 50th wedding anniversary. Henry & Marlene are friends we made through Fran. It was great to catch up with Fran over lunch. They had a great program of two skits and singing.

On Sunday morning I was on the road by 9:00 to drive up for my friend from seminary’s installation service. I had missed his ordination. It was a wonderful service at the country church.

Today I was back to fitness class and then out to lunch with a friend. I’m really enjoying not working!

I dropped Doug off at the airport this morning. He flew to Saskatoon. On Wednesday he takes the ‘red eye’ to Toronto and then on to North Carolina on Thursday morning. Emily & I have made a pact – the dogs only get walked three times a day (not the prescribed 4 walks by Doug). I have morning & night and she has the 3:00 p.m. walk. Now you can say, “poor dogs.”

It’s a scorcher here today at 28 degrees. The air-conditioning is running!
