Begining Ministry in Swift Current

Church Sign Board It is official … and I have the church sign board to prove it … I am full-fledged newbie pastor. I began my ministry at the begining of September – what an overwhelming month! I have two wonderful pastors who I am in team ministry with, and I deeply appreciate their guidance and support. If you would like to see more photos, click on this link.

Installation Service At the begining of October my installation service was held. The evening began with a potluck supper that was well attended. In this photo are my two pastoral partners – Greg and Linda. The pastor on the right lead the service and he serves a congregation in our ministerial area. In the service, members from each of the five congregation – which makes up our very large geographical area – presented me with symbols representing the types of ministries that I’ll be involved with. It was a touching service.

LTS girls I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that three of my girl friends from seminary had made the 2.5 hour trip down to Swift Current from Saskatoon. Here you see Connor, Courtenay, myself and Laura.

My dear friend Fran came down from Saskatoon and spent the weekend with us. Fran had come to Swift Current the very first weekend that I moved and got me all unpacked with photos and pictures hung! She was a lifesaver!

Bless you, Rhett, for doing whatever you did to allow me to post on your mom’s site!
I am soooo pleased you are back, Kristin …. for too many months now I’ve had to store away some real doozie comments waiting for your return. Now if only I can remember where I stored them!

Thanks Rhett for fixing up the comments page!

Mary – you had better remember the “one” amazing that you wouldn’t tell unless you could post it on my blog. I’ve been waiting to hear the story! Thanks for your encouragement.

Mary – We have lots of snow … and it is -25 with a wind chill of -35. I win. Now I need to make some tea in that teapot and warm up!

You might win in the snow department, but sure not in football….or was I not supposed to mention that again?!?!

Well, our long lost sister in Christ’s blog has awakened. Welcome back, Kristin. I am sure that you can count better than your Green Riders. Keep us up to date as to how many of the five parishes that you serve on a regular basis.

Ahh…yes it is wonderful to see Kristin back! Now that I have gotten into the swing of commenting, it was sad to see you not post – although I can’t imagine what you were doing with all your spare time!!! Maybe we can somehow relate you coming back to your blog to the coming of the Christ Child…hmmm? Anyway, great to see your blog back. (It gives me a chance to banter with all those Easterner’s too!)

    I refuse to discuss football.

Fran – Good to hear from you.

While it was totally sad and a little embarrassing to watch the Riders lose the Grey Cup, at least our team makes it to the championship game once in awhile. When was the last time any Ontario team (Maple Leafs, Argos, Raptors, Blue Jays, Tiger Cats, Senators…)excelled in their respective leagues? Maybe we can blame our predominantly American coaches and players for the trouble with counting past 12 or maybe we can finger one of those Ontario players on our team (Fantuz, Bagg, McKoy, Nicholson..). In fact Nicholson is not normally on the field for field goal tries except for that last play. He is tall and has tremendous vertical (jumping ability) reach. In his defense he hasn’t played a whole lot this year and in the excitement of the game probably didn’t communicate to the player he took the place of for that last play. Although the loss was heartbreaking, our appearance in the Grey Cup wasn’t a fluke and we’ll be back soon!

Kristin won’t comment on football and Mary thinks football is silly. However, Doug and I know it is a great game to watch. I still believe that Montreal was the better team, and yes, Toronto SUCKS when it comes to putting a winning team on the field or on the ice. I expect that the Leafs will win the Stanley Cup by 2067. However, I don’t think that I will see that day. Perhaps God and I can talk together about that particular event when it arrives.

Even I, who knows less about football than Kristin (!!!!) felt a little bit of Rider pride. It’s contagious!

I’m your mini-me, Mom. Being Kristin’s favourite means that you’re her favourite by extension (err…. or something like that).

Whatever. Just don’t ask me anything about yard lines or watermelons on heads or hutting and we’re all good. ;)
