Soveran Family Christmas

Christmas 2009As you can see … Doug is pretty happy with this gift! His very own SK Roughrider jacket! Some people are really spoiled. There is no “Poor Doug” here.

Christmas 2009 I love this photo of Leah … she is ripping into a present which won’t surrender to her fingernails. Eventually she did make her way through the layers of tape and wrap.

Christmas 2009 As you can see, Rhett can’t control his excitement! I’m actually afraid for his life … but he can’t wait for spring so that he can fire up this puppy and take down a few trees. You know how the story goes … first it is a chain saw … then it is a truck to haul the stuff away.

Christmas 2009 Emily got just what she was hoping for – a new pair of mukluks. Emily has always loved mukluks and moccasins since she was a young girl.

Check out this link to see lots of photos. We changed our habit from opening gifts Christmas morning to doing it on Christmas Eve. I was leading the Christmas Day service at 11:00 a.m. and Rhett and Leah were heading to her parents, so it only made good sense … but Doug had to be very flexible in changing … and he was!

The “Poor One” comment this time is reserved for Kristin … did Santa not bring her anything?? Maybe he’s been reading some of your posts!!! POOR KRISTIN

  2. Kristin says:

Kristin neglected to mention that she did alright as well – she got a brand new shiny laptop!

  3. Kristin says:

Doug has to get better at changing the post name to his name!

But my laptop isn’t set up yet Doug!

Thank you Mary for noticing that Doug never offered to take any Christmas photos of me!! I think Rhett & Leah did take a few photos … but, of course, Rhett seems to rarely read this blog! Poor Kristin, indeed.

  4. John Pulley says:

Make sure you tell Rhett that he will need a generator if he is going to the bush to cut wood. I happen to have the same brand of chain saw and it will cut almost any size tree.
Doug should have received a Montreal jacket to go with the SK jacket.

  5. Doug says:

No “poor Kristin’s” allowed after this Christmas. I didn’t really have time to set up the laptop, I was too busy cooking, cleaning, walking dogs, and doing other biddings of Kristin while she took some time off (snoozing in front of the television!!)

  6. Jennifer Chase says:

    Poor Doug!

(Do I get to be your favourite Golem for getting the first “Poor Doug” in?)

  7. Kristin says:

John – You are a big help!! Since getting a chain saw, I’m sure Rhett will need a truck … and now a generator too?? And good job with the Montreal remark!!

Doug – you exaggerate as always!

Jen – No! And I was sure that I would get a compliment from you for the appropriate use of the emoticon!

  8. Jen Chase says:

I’m sorry I missed complimenting you on your emoticon, Kristin. I am very proud of your appropriate usage. :)

(A friend of ours has an 18 month old, and her parents cheer when she goes pee on the potty. Now she cheers when anyone else goes on the potty. I feel like this is a similar situation!)

  9. Kristin says:

It is the same situation! These maturational goals are very important and need to be recognized and affirmed. I’m glad I could be of help.

  10. Mary Golem says:

Wow…fail to check in for a day and look at the dialogue one misses!!!

We just spent the past couple of hours babysitting Jacob and Emma Holmes … they are soooo cute, Kristin!

John … I think Doug needs a Toronto Maple Leaf coat, don’t you?

Doug … you really do deserve hero status! No more Poor Doug’s from me … at least not tonight!

  11. Kristin says:

Emma & Jacob … hmmm … I’m thinking they are about 18 months … just keeping the theme going.

Hero status? What are you talking about?

  12. John Pulley says:

Yes, Mary, Doug should have a Maple Leaf jacket. We shouldn’t have to suffer by ourselves all the time.

Doug. I loved your comment about Kristin falling asleep in front of the tv. Liz does that quite often also. Try changing the channel and see what happens. Does Kristin also fall asleep with a book in her hand? Do you have to remind her to turn the page? Could be that Kristin learned these traits from Liz when she was our Intern

  13. Doug says:

Kristin will stay asleep when I change the channel if I have the remote before she falls asleep. I can remove the remote from her hand when she is asleep but her eyes will pop open when I change the channel.

I would be happy to have a Leaf’s jacket, don’t have any NHL jackets yet. I used to be an Islander’s fan when they had a lot of players from Western Canada but that’s not the case anymore. Leaf jackets are common in Regina – I think it’s a genetic thing.

  14. Mary Golem says:

The REAL reason Doug wants a Leaf jacket, John, has nothing to do with being part of the crowd of hockey fans in Regina. The real reason he wants one is to remind himself every time he wears it of the WONDERFUL PEOPLE HE KNOWS IN ONTARIO, don’t ya think??!?!?!

I don’t know what it is like to have the TV remote … Gerald has it all the time!

  15. John Pulley says:

Yes, Mary, we are wonderful people here in Ontario. That was proven when Pastor Sheilah convinced Kristin to come to Ontario to be an intern in our parish. If you had looked closely at some of the replies from previous responses on this blog, Kristin often expressed her desire to return to our wonderful Grey Bruce area. I think Doug wouldn’t have much trouble saying the same thing if he were retired.
