I was amazed to hear that Gerald and Mary have a ‘nature cam’ set-up somewhere on their property. If I have the story right, the camera (video camera?) is motion sensitive (& solar powered?). They put it along a pathway where they know wildlife to travel.
Isn’t this an amazing photo? There are three deer in the photo. Mary – Is that a pile of apples that you set out or is a mound of mushroooms? And a nice set of antlers on the buck.
I think the black & white tones make the photo very haunting – except by the lighting I think it is a beautiful sunny day. Thanks to Mary & Gerald for sharing this photo. I think I could watch this footage over & over … just to see who has been in the neighbourhood! It’s like I always wonder, “What do the dogs do all day when we aren’t home?”
The camera is called a Trail Cam and takes regular photos or infra-red shots in deep shade or at night. The camera is strapped to a tree and any movement will cause the shutter to trigger. Yes, that is a pile of apples Gerald put out … hoping he’d attract the deer to get some nice shots. It worked!! But in the process of getting nice deer pix, he also got 92 – yes 92! – pictures in a row of very, very fat raccoons having a feast. We’ll send some of those pix your way as well.
He has also been able to get a pic of a red fox, wild turkeys, coyotes, along with deer and raccoons. Maybe someday we’ll get a shot of a bear.
You mention Kristin you wonder what your dogs do all day … you should get Doug one of these cameras and then you’d know!!
BUT..you don’t want Doug to hide that camera in your Swift Current house … then he’d really know what you do all day!!!!
Ah yes, the raccoon pictures. My parents’ version of boring vacation slides….
Jennifer, you are hilarious!! But I imagine you did have to look at all 92 of the racoon photos!
Mary – you know I only work on Sundays, so the only photos would be of me in the recliner … sitting … getting up … sitting with diet coke in hand … clicking the remote control … getting up … sitting down with snack in hand … clicking remote control … over & over.
Pretty good working day you describe there, Kristin …. except you forgot to mention your participation in an one hour service . . . you know, preaching ….
Yes, I did get to see all 92 raccoon photos. Although to be fair, they were pretty interesting.
Hey Mary … Do you know what?? After the services at three of the locations they always have a pot-luck light lunch. So I work for an hour – get paid as though I worked all week – and I get lunch with lovely folks! … Ministry … it doesn’t get any better!
